To use frames or not use frames, that is the question?

Today, we learned to create a website using frames.  We talked about some of the benefits to using frames and the negatives.  We are creating a quick site using the frames to determine if students would like to use frames to create their big website project.

We are quickly moving through Dreamweaver.  The Dreamweaver Test will be next Wednesday, October 28th.  Please make sure that if you are absent anytime between now and then that you make sure to get a copy of the notes and check in with me for any assignments you may have missed.

We started Chapter 4 today in Dreamweaver, working with images.  We talked about inserting an image, resizing and moving an image, placeholders, image maps, and linking an image.

The chapter 4 project requires students to create a site about a movie of their choice (movie must be school appropriate).  Please come in on Thursday with your movie selection already chosen.

Begin to think about the topic of your large web site project.  It is rapidly approaching.  You will have 3-4 weeks to work on that web site.  Any ideas?

We have started using Dreamweaver in class.  Everyone seems to be excited at the ease of the program and its possibilities.  Tuesday and Wednesday, I introduced Chapter 2 (links, colors, etc.)

On Thursday and Friday, students will be working on the Chapter 2 Assignment – Life Plans.  If you miss class and have work to make up, the first two computers in the library have Dreamweaver on them.  If you are using Dreamweaver at Home, we use Dreamweaver 2004, version 7.

Reminder – All HTML work is due by Thursday, October 8th.  Anything that is not turned in by that date becomes a zero.  Interim reports will be out soon!

This week will be dedicated to finishing our assignments in the HTML book and working on your personal HTML project.  Your assignment asks you to create a site to sell a service or product.  Be creative!  What you sell is up to  you!  (Tired of that little brother that is always nagging you, your CD collection, your landscaping/babysitting services, etc.)

Today, Thursday, we practiced debugging (finding the errors) in our HTML code.  Examples of some common errors include forgetting a tag, forgetting the slash in a closing tag, and putting the slash in the wrong place.  Our quiz on debugging is on Friday (tomorrow)!

Some students need some time to catch up with the work.  You may sign out a copy of the book to take home, you can go to the library during study hall, or come early (7 am) to class.

We added to our notes in HTML today.  We learned how to make text bold, italics, and underlined.  We learned the proper code for making  numbered and bulleted lists.  Lastly, we learned how to insert a graphic.  Remember – all images used in creating a webpage must be original, owned by the creator, or the creator must have permission to use it by the owner of the picture.

Sites of the Day-
www.wikihow.com -submitted by Ryan – similar to a few of the sites we have seen before, this site will show or give directions for doing any task that you might need to do.

www.gendou.com – submitted by Meagan – Anime music and videos.

During class today, students received their scores back for their first quiz.    I was pleased with the results!  We continued working on Chapter 1 in our HTML workbook.  Students should now have completed Nomad and Marvelous Musicals on their assignment sheet.  For those of you who were absent, you can make up these assignments at home or during a study hall in the library.

Site of the day – www.bing.com – a search engine created by Microsoft – Gabe shared with us his reasoning for preferring Bing to Google. Old habits are hard to break and I still tend to run to Google first, but Bing does have some great searching features.  Check it out for yourself!

Have a great weekend!
